I have to say that she demands a little more than the recommended quantity, but then again she is unusually strong and active. She runs a minimum of 6 km per day at speed and usually a good bit more.

October 10, 2022 I can highly recommend the product. Was recommended the product by my pups breeder, and after my pup went off a well known brand I asked for an alternative. Mera from the service to the product has been a hit. I have now changed my 3 senior smaller dogs onto the senior feed, and my other dogs onto the regular activity brand, and my 12 month old retriever onto Junior 2. August 14, 2024 I have tried so many brands of dog food for my Golden retriever, but he had constant problems with his gut till i started ordering Mera Sensitive Junior Turkey & Rice Dog Food. He has been on it for a couple of months already and i can honestly say it's the best dog food on the market as most Goldens have allergies for chicken. Happy to find Turkey in SA.

March 17, 2026 Having started on the MERA puppy food (Junior 1 and Junior 2), my 3 now adult dogs are all on MERA Agility and have absolutely thrived from day 1. I wanted a good quality, wheat-free diet and I was very particular in researching and choosing MERA, as all my pups came from very compromised circumstances and 2 were chronically under-nourished. April 22, 2020 - My Belgain Malinois, Shia. Switched over to Junior 2 when he was around 6 months. He grew up on another brand which we thought was good. Little did we know he had a slight calcium deficit and too many calories for his portion size. It was only when we switched over to Mera that we saw huge improvements in his health and appearance. What is the difference between grain-free and gluten-free dog food?
Gluten-free means the food contains no gluten-forming proteins – so no wheat, gluten containing barley, or rye. All MERA PURE Sensitive recipes are gluten-free. Grain-free goes further – it eliminates all grains entirely, including rice and corn, which are naturally gluten-free but still grains. If your dog reacts to grains broadly rather than just wheat or gluten specifically, the grain-free range is the appropriate choice.
Is grain-free dog food available in South Africa?
Yes. MERA PURE Sensitive Grain-Free dog food is available in South Africa through meradog.co.za and selected stockists. Both the Turkey & Potato and Herring & Potato recipes are formulated for adult dogs with grain sensitivities or allergies.
Is herring a good protein for dogs with itchy skin?
Yes. Herring is one of the richest dietary sources of Omega-3 fatty acids, which play a direct role in maintaining healthy skin and a strong coat. For dogs whose food allergy or sensitivity manifests primarily as a skin condition, a fish-based limited ingredient diet – like PURE Sensitive Herring & Potato – is frequently recommended by veterinarians as a first-line dietary intervention.
Can I switch my dog from the rice-based range to the grain-free range?
Yes, but transition gradually over 7–10 days – mixing increasing proportions of the new food with the old. If your dog has been doing well on the Turkey & Rice range and shows no signs of grain sensitivity beyond wheat or gluten, a switch to grain-free may not be necessary. Consult your veterinarian if you are unsure which range is most appropriate.
